Bakersfield jobs are available in a variety of industries in todays market. The unemployment level is higher at 8.3 percent, but in the right industries, there are still plenty of opportunities. One of the areas with the highest unemployment in California, Bakersfield has a slower economy but remains firm in specific industries.
The Bakersfield economy has had growth in several industries. The first of these is professional and business services. This industry has grown by 6.3 percent in the past 12 months. Specifically, the segment of administration and support has increased by 10.2 percent, adding 1,300 jobs. These jobs are primarily entry-level positions designed to support daily tasks and responsibilities.
The next area that grew over the past year is general merchandise stores, part of the private service industry. This segment added 400 jobs from last year, increasing by 6.2 percent. The wholesale trade segment, also included in the private service industry, experienced a growth rate of 6.0 percent while adding 500 jobs over the last year. There were indeed some areas that did not experience job growth, but administration and support, general merchandise stores and wholesale trade created employment opportunities for job seekers.
There are some major employers in the area that contribute to the local economy and create opportunities by offering Bakersfield jobs. Many of the large employers are in the health care industry, and they include nursing positions, physician, and administration jobs. Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, Kern Medical, Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield and Ridgecrest Regional Hospitalare some of the larger employers in Bakersfield. Outside of the health care industry, Chevron Corp and Ensign United States Drilling are two larger employers that often have Bakersfield jobs available.
While Bakersfield continues to have a higher unemployment rate than ideal, there are still many job opportunities with the professional and business services industry and the private service industry. The growth in those areas has created new Bakersfield jobs, so don't let the slower economy keep you away from Bakersfield.
